The American Foundation for Equal Rights has reported that Gary Johnson is to sign on to an amicus curiae brief to be filed with the Supreme Court in support of overturning California's Proposition 8, which denies LGBT Americans the right to marry.
“The support for marriage equality demonstrated by this amicus brief represents a microcosm of what we see happening all across the country,” said AFER executive director Adam Umhoefer. “Americans are united behind the concepts of freedom, dignity and strong families."
In a press release today, a growing list of over 80 transpartisan signatories that includes Gary Johnson, Mary Cheney, and Ken Mehlman was published as support swells among conservatives for marriage equality.
On December 7, 2012, the Supreme Court granted review in Perry to consider whether Proposition 8 violates the Due Process and Equal Protection Clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. The Court will hear oral argument in Perry on March 26, 2013.
